Meerut hospital staff accused of running 'COVID-19 negative certificate scam'

Guwahati: While doctors and medical staff across the country are busy trying to tackle the COVID-19, a video clip has emerged from Meerut, wherein a private hospital's staff is promising negative test reports from the district hospital in exchange for money.

The video clip shows a gathering of people who are having a conversation with the hospital staff and requesting for a negative COVID-19 test report (from the district hospital) so that they "don't have to face any problem for at least a week". The video depicts the "clients" paying Rs 2,000 to the Hospital Manager as an advance and promising to pay the remaining Rs 500 when the report arrives.

A case has been filed against the hospital owners. Meanwhile, Meerut Chief Medical Officer has ordered a probe into the corruption case. The District Magistrate, Anil Dhingra has also suspended the private hospital's license.

However, it may be mentioned here that owing to the shortage of medical equipment on the country due to the impact of COVID-19, cancellation of the hospital's license might create problems for the people who need medical care.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Raj Kumar said, "An inquiry has been set up to look into the matter. From the video, it has emerged that the Hospital's Manager, Shah Alam is promising people a fake COVID-19 negative report in exchange for money. A case has been filed against him. Meanwhile, an inquiry has also been set up to find out if somebody from the district hospital was hand in glove with him."
