MHA Asks Government of Delhi to Resubmit the Budget

A statement also mentioned that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had raised several concerns of administrative nature

NEW DELHI: Following the concerns of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi about the budget, the Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the Delhi Government to resubmit its annual budget in the state.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs, it “requested” the Government of Delhi to resubmit the budget again after concerns were raised. The statement mentioned that the department had received a copy of the budget document and the second and last batch of supplementary demands for the year 2022-23 for the previous sanction of the President for laying it before the legislative assembly.

The statement also mentioned that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi had raised several concerns of administrative nature on the budget proposed by the Government of Delhi. Keeping in view the fiscal interest of the National Capital Territory, the Ministry of Home Affairs had sent a letter on March 17 requesting the GNCTD to resubmit the Budget and address their concerns and take further actions. It also mentioned that they are waiting for a reply from the Delhi government.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the chief of the Aam Admi Party, Arvind Kejriwal called this an attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government is attempting to stall the annual budget ahead of the scheduled date of tabling. “You will be shocked to know about something which has happened for the first time in India's history. Tomorrow, the Delhi government is presenting its budget before the Assembly. The Centre has stalled our budget this evening. The Delhi government employees, doctors and teachers won't get their salaries tomorrow. It is hooliganism", he said at an event.

However, the members from the Home Ministry dismissed these allegations, saying that the MHA has instead sought clarification from the Government of Delhi as its budget allocation was focussed on advertisement rather than the infrastructure sector.
