Nagaland Woman Lured to Bhopal, Raped and Forced to Convert
BHOPAL (MP): A young man in Bhopal has been charged with the heinous crime of raping a woman originally belonging to Nagaland and luring her with promises of marriage to accompany him to the capital of Madhya Pradesh.
It was also alleged by the Koh-e-fiza police in Bhopal that the purported rapist had forced the girl from Nagaland to convert into another religion, making false claims about government largesse in such cases.
Vijay Singh Sisodia, the Koh-e-fiza police station house officer, provided details about the case, saying that the around 30 year-old victim, had met the 26-year-old accused, identified as one Krishnapal, in Nagaland in the year 2021.
He said they fell in love, after which Krishnapal proceeded to offer her a marriage proposal, which was accepted by the victim. He also asked her to accompany him to Bhopal, assuring her a better life there.
After arriving in Bhopal, the duo began living together at a rented accommodation in the Lalghati area.
It was alleged that Krishnapal took advantage of her during their live-in relationship, exploiting her physically numerous times.
Reports reaching here suggest that whenever the woman used to protest over the physical intimacy, the accused would promise to marry her soon every time.
It is also significant to note that during this period of living-in together, Krishnapal also managed to extract ornaments and jewellery from her possession and got her to sign several documents on false pretexts, the contents of which were, however, not divulged.
Later, he also misled her by saying that the Madhya Pradesh government gifts an amount of Rs 2 lakh to married couples who are involved in inter-caste marriages.
The woman, who came from another religion, believed his statements to be true and mulled being converted.
After some time, the accused Krishnapal began exerting pressure on her, to prepare for religious conversion. These incidents led to frequent arguments taking place between them.
However, on May 24, the woman got fed up and finally approached the police. She lodged a complaint against Krishnapal for allegedly raping her and forcing her to convert to another religion, which she was yet to accept.
Based on the complaint, the police arrested the accused and have produced him in court.
