NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister of the country unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision Document on Wednesday. He also launched the 6G research and development test bed towards making the faster implementation of the upcoming technology a reality in the country. He was speaking at the inauguration of the ITU Area Office & Innovation Centre in Delhi and the 'Call Before You Dig' app was also launched.

While a large section of the country does not have access to 5G services as of now, the release of the vision document hints at a quicker development in the communications sector of the country. While releasing the document, the prime minister also mentioned that the number of internet users has increased manifold in the last few years and the number of rural users now exceed the number of urban users in the country.

The Bharat 6G vision document was created by a tech-innovation group created in November 2021 with representatives from different departments, research-based institutions, telecom players and standardisation bodies. It aims to set forward a roadmap and action plan towards the establishment of 6G in India.

The aim of the vision document and the test bed is to create an environment of innovation, capacity building and faster deployment of new technology in the country.

Prime minister Narendra Modi had announced that the government of India is preparing to roll out the 6G services in the country towards the end of the decade while addressing the grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon in August 2022.

It is important to mention that the bids worth Rs 1.50 lakh crores were received by the Department of Telecommunications during the auction of the 5G spectrum in the country, and the value is expected to increase for the 6G spectrum.
