New Year To Be Expensive For Commoners, Here's a List Of Services And Items To Get Costlier in 2022

People across the world are enjoying the New Year in different ways hoping for a better year with a new beginning and hopes.

With the massive celebration of the New Year, many might be unaware of the harsh truth that there will be an increase in the rates of Goods and Services Tax (GST) from January 2022.

At this moment of enjoyment and celebration, the information seems to be a bit bitter that hikes in the rates of GST will be brought into effect from the first month of the New Year. The increase in GST will affect the common people to a larger extend.

The increased rates of GST are meant to be applicable to different services and products/items which include textiles, apparel, footwear among others. The hike will also be applied to the home deliveries of food apps such as Zomato and Swiggy therefore from now onwards more prices will be needed to pay during online orders of food in the mentioned food platform.

The Goods and Services Tax in case of items like textiles, apparel and footwear will be charged 12% from this month of 2022 and at present, the rates of all these items are 5%. Textiles items include necessary daily use items such as blankets, woven fabrics, rugs, synthetic yarns, table cloths, piles and fabrics. In case the footwear it is expected that shoes will be available at the expensive price of Rupees 1000 per pair.

From January 1, 2022, 5% GST will be collected and paid on food orders from various food delivering online platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato. The GST for already cooked food provided by the online services (Zomato, Swiggy) at present is paid by the concerned restaurants from which it comes.

It is informed that the restaurants in the country that wishes to take the benefits of services provided by Swiggy and Zomato from 1st January this year will have to register themselves like e-commerce sellers and this has been made compulsory.

The implementation of such change in the taxation system has been decided in view of the matter that many restaurants located in different regions did not deposit taxes but earned huge profits.

Through this hike in GST of the essential commodities, the commoners will suffer the most as it becomes sometimes impossible for middle-class families to afford items and avail services with higher GST rates.
