BHUBANESWAR: 'Drink your way to health' an ambulance driver in Odissa took this phrase a little too seriously. On Monday, a video of a bizarre incident went viral all over social media.

An ambulance driver on his way to hospital was captured on video while gulping pegs along with his injured patient. The episode took place in Tirtol village of Jagatsinghpur in Odisha. The driver had parked the ambulance on side of a highway in Tirtol area and started drinking inside it.

The video clearly captured the patient taking a swig, after which the driver prepared a peg for himself too. The patient was seen laying on a stretcher with a plastered leg in the ambulance and while he was sipping his glass of drink, the driver did a 'bottoms up' in a swig.

The video was shot and uploaded on social media platforms by onlookers on Monday. Apart from the two, a woman and a child were also present inside the ambulance. When confronted by the bystanders, the driver asserted that the patient insisted him for a drink.

Residents in that particular area got agitated by the occurrence and demanded a thorough investigation regarding the matter. They wanted the authorities to take stern lawful action against the driver.

However, Chief District Medical Officer of Jagatsinghpur, Dr Kshetrabasi Dash stated that the department doesn't have a lot to say regarding the case as the vehicle was a private ambulance. But actions must be taken by RTO and the concerned police station, added the CDMO.

Nonetheless, no complaint has been registered until now. The inspector in-charge of Tirtol police station, Jugal Kishore Das, claimed that an investigation will be initiated by the department only if they receive an formal FIR.

The actual facts are yet to ascertained, however, 'drink and drive' is considered to be a major traffic offence in India. The identity of the accused and his patient has not been revealed yet and further investigation is on process.
