NEW DELHI: The Prithvi-II tactical ballistic missile was successfully test-launched by India on January 10 from a test range off the coast of Odisha, according to the Defence Ministry.
On January 10, 2023, a successful training launch of the Prithvi-II short-range ballistic missile was made from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. The Prithvi-II missile, a proven system, has been a crucial component of India's nuclear deterrence, the statement continued.
The statement continued, "The user training launch successfully confirmed all operational and technical characteristics of the missile," after stating that the missile hit its target with excellent accuracy. It is important to note that the Prithvi-II has a 350 km range.
In addition, the Prithvi II is a nuclear-capable missile that was produced domestically and has a payload capacity of up to 500 kilogrammes. The missile is propelled by a liquid propulsion system and features a high-thrust engine, and it is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.
According to sources, the missile has been included in the Indian armed forces after undergoing multiple successful test launches. The missile has sophisticated navigation and guidance systems and is thought to have a high level of accuracy.
According to the sources, the Prithvi II has been used by numerous regiments of the Indian armed forces but is predominantly utilised by the Indian Army. The missile is also a "game changer" because it strengthens India's strategic capabilities and dissuades potential enemies.
Notably, the creation and use of the Prithvi II and other missiles in this series have been a notable accomplishment for both the DRDO, who created the missile, and India's domestic defence sector. In 2020, the missile underwent three nights of testing.
