Of Rs 6.91 Lakh Crore, Yogi Govt Has Added 40% To UP's Debt

New Delhi: Launching a scathing attack on BJP, Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram said that there is a debt of 6.91 lakh crore Uttar Pradesh (UP), out of which 40 per cent is due to the Yogi government.

He targeted the government in Uttar Pradesh by presenting data on many areas including poverty, unemployment, education, health.

"Today, the fifth phase of polling is going on in Uttar Pradesh. This election is being fought with a lot of hard work. There are four major parties, which are contesting here and have their own point of view for the voters. Putting it in front," Chidambaram said this at the state Congress headquarters.

He further said that the per capita income has decreased by 1.9 per cent during the tenure of the Yogi government, adding, ''There is a debt of 6.91 lakh on UP, out of which 40 per cent is due to the present government.''

"UP is a state with a large population and the most working people in the country are found here. This state has given eight prime ministers to the country, but even today UP is poor, its people are poor. UP is complete on an economic and social scale. The country is at the lowest rung and it is sad to see that," he added.

Chidambaram further asserted that the NITI Aayog's Multidimensional Poverty Index data shows that 37.9 per cent of the population of UP is below the poverty line. In 12 districts, this figure is more than 50 per cent and in three of these districts – Shravasti, Bahraich and Balrampur it is more than 70 per cent.

The former Union Minister also said that the new generation is suffering the most because UP has the highest unemployment rate. He claimed that since April 2018, the unemployment rate in the state has come down to double figures and one out of every four youth is unemployed.

The Congress leader alleged that the state government was not filling up the vacant posts as it was not in its intention to provide jobs. Every 16th person of Uttar Pradesh leaves his state, his village and goes out for a job.
