NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, seven people were killed and many others sustained injuries after the train Konark Express run over them.

The incident took place on Monday 11 April on the rail line at Batuwa in the G. Sigadam zone near Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to reports, the deceased persons were travelling in the Secunderabad-Guwahati Superfast Express before the incident took place.

They came out of the train in between their journey by pulling the train's chain after witnessing some technical error as informed by sources.

The passengers of Secunderabad-Guwahati Superfast Express reportedly saw smoke emerging from the train they are travelling and decided to move out.

The superfast express then stopped near the Cheepurupalli Batuwa Railway gate in Andhra Pradesh on a technical concern.

As the passengers got down from the train and stand on the rail track, the Kolkata-bound Konark Express which was coming from the opposite direction ran over them.

Seven individuals died on the spot and several others received severe injuries. Injured persons were later taken and admitted to the nearby hospital for medical attention.

Two of the persons killed have been identified as the residents of Assam and the details about other passengers are not yet known.

However, the police officials have initiated an investigation over the incident for the identification of all the deceased.

The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy has expressed his grief over the unfortunate rail incident in Andhra Pradesh that led to the death of 7 passengers and left many injured.

In a statement by the chief minister, he informed that officials are meanwhile ordered to ensure all necessary and possible help to the people sustaining injuries following the incident.

It is also informed that CM Reddy is personally looking after the rescue and relief operation that is currently carried out at the spot.
