Paytm founder gets targeted by trusted employee for millions in ransom

Guwahati: Billionaire entrepreneur from India, the founder of India’s most popular digital payment service Paytm, Vijay Shekhar Sharma has recently been made a target of ransom demand. However, what is more shocking is that one of his most trusted employees is the main culprit behind the ransom demands!

Police, following a thorough investigation into the ransom demand case, have reached at this outcome that Paytm vice president Sonia Dhawan, her husband, and another Paytm employee are the ones who are allegedly the people behind the stealing of Sharma’s personal data. The trio stole Sharma’s personal data with an intention of extorting money from the Indian business tycoon.

All three are in police custody right now and are kept at Luksar Jail in Noida. However, the investigators are in search of a fourth person, who allegedly made ransom calls to Sharma. Sonia Dhawan and her husband’s lawyer, on the other hand, says that both his clients are innocent and did not do anything wrong.

However, quite many things are under the clouds of doubt at present as many questions have remained unanswered. The key question at the moment is why would a nine-year veteran of Paytm turn against her boss and would take up such a step of extorting money from him?

Sanchit Vir Gogia, founder and chief executive officer of Greyhound Research, said, “Everybody’s fascinated by this unraveling story. It involves a famous, very vocal person like Vijay Shekhar Sharma. Paytm’s done exceptionally well so there’s an emotional connection as well.”

Sharma is the founder of One97 Communications which is the parent company of Paytm, in the year 2000. Sharma had started his expedition when there were only a few Indians in the online business industry. the attractive offers he made through Paytm along with the idea of digital payments were innovative and quite first in the row. Such business tactics made him soar into the sky of success. In fact, when the Indian government eliminated 500- and 1,000-rupee banknotes, it was Paytm that was widely used for shopping at groceries and other places.
