Chandigarh: The first dose of the Oxford Covid-19 vaccine has been administered in the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh on Saturday.

The vaccine was administered to three trial participants who were monitored for half an hour and then sent back home. The participants will be regularly followed up by the doctors for the next six months.

A 57-year-old woman, a 33-year-old man, and a 26-year-old woman are the three volunteers for the trial vaccine.

According to sources, the volunteers will be observed for 28 days after a 0.5 ml dose of the vaccine. The second dose of the vaccine will be provided followed by monitoring for another 28 days. After that, their blood samples will be collected and observed for the next six months.

The three candidates have been asked to note any development of fever or any other symptoms. The PGI has screened 18 candidates as of now.

Jagar Ram, Director, PGI said the institute has administered the three volunteers for the first dose of the vaccine who fulfilled the eligibility conditions.

''The participants have been given the contact numbers of a physician, in case they face any problem. The institute will be following them up regularly'' added Jagat Ram.
