Minister Narendra Modi, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, pays
tribute to tribal leader Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary on Sunday.
PM Modi wrote on his Twitter, Salute to Lord Birsa Munda Ji on his birth anniversary. He was the true messiah of the poor, who struggled throughout his life for the welfare of the exploited and deprived. His contribution to the freedom movement and his efforts for social harmony will always inspire the countrymen.
Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and wrote, "I offer my humble tribute to great tribal leader 'Dharti Aaba' Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his Jayanti today. A fierce freedom fighter, his life and teachings on protecting rights remain an inspiration for many. #धरतीआबाबिरसा_मुंडा."
The state of Jharkhand was formed on Birsa Munda's
Birth anniversary in 2000. Thus today that is November 15 is historic for the
people of Jharkhand.
Birsa Munda was an Indian tribal freedom fighter who
belonged to the Munda tribe born on November 15, 1875. He had challenged the
British rule and is credited with mobilizing tribals against the empire.
He died in British custody at the age of 25 years on Jun 9.1900.
