PM Modi pays tribute to Sardar Patel on his 144th birth anniversary at Statue of Unity

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kevadiya, Gujarat to pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 144th birth anniversary at the Statue of Unity.

Dedicating the decision to abrogate Article 370 “at the feet” of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, on Thursday, the PM said that “Unity in Diversity” is our pride and those who “cannot win wars against us” are trying to destroy our unity.

Pm Modi will also be participating in various events on October 31 at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat to mark the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which includes ‘Ekta Diwas Parade’ and interacting with civil service probationers.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, flagged off a run to commemorate Sardar Patel’s 144th birth anniversary in the national capital. The ‘Run for Unity’, which began from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, witnessed a large number of people, participating in it including various sports personalities, sports enthusiasts and personnel of central police forces among others.

It is to be mentioned that PM Modi was received at the Ahmedabad airport by Governor Acharya Devvrat, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and other dignitaries, on Wednesday.

After that, he went to visit his mother Hiraba in Raysan village near Gandhinagar.

Since 2014, the Modi government has been celebrating Patel’s birth anniversary as ‘Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day.

Patel was born on October 31, 1875, at Nadiad, Gujrat. He was the country’s first Home Minister and is credited for merging over 560 states into the Union of India.
