PM Modi Wanted To Work Together, but I Rejected: Sharad Pawar

Guwahati: Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar said that he got an offer from Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “working together” but he rejected the offer.

"Modi had offered me to work together. But I told him that our personal relations will remain the same but it is not possible for me to work together," Pawar said during an interview on a TV Channel.

Pawar dismissed reports of him getting an offer from the Modi government to become India’s president. However, he said his daughter Supriya (Sule) got the offer to become a minister in the Modi-led cabinet. Supriya Sule is the MP from Baramati in Pune district.

Pawar called on PM Modi in November amid dramatic political developments over government formation in Maharashtra.

“PM Modi told me that our views were not different and that on many issues like development, industrialization, agriculture, we were not different,” Pawar told media.

PM Modi has been seen heaping praises on Pawar from time to time and refrained from making any vicious attacks on the latter. The PM even asked political parties including BJP to learn from NCP on how to adhere to parliamentary norms.

Modi once even confessed that he has personal respect for Pawar as he helped him during his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Pawar also said he did not like it when Ajit Pawar supported Devendra Fadnavis when Uddhav Thackeray took oath as Maharashtra CM.
