GUWAHATI: PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to remember Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his birthday.

"On 23rd January 1897, Janakinath Bose wrote in his diary, “A son was born at midday.” This son became a valorous freedom fighter and thinker who devoted his life towards one great cause- India’s freedom. I refer to Netaji Bose, who we proudly remember on his Jayanti today," he tweeted.

He further added, "India will always remain grateful to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for his bravery and indelible contribution to resisting colonialism. He stood up for the progress and well-being of his fellow Indians."

The day has been declared as a public holiday in Jharkhand.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren tweeted that "Jharkhand has also been the "karmabhoomi" of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. His contribution in providing independence to India can never be forgotten. We all should take inspiration from his life. The youth should contribute to the state and country service by following the footsteps of Netaji."

Various events throughout the country are being organised to mark this occasion.
