Police Arrests 2 Ward Boys for Molesting COVID-19 Patient at Indore Hospital

On Friday, Indore Police arrested 2 ward boys for molesting a COVID-19 patient. The accused have been identified as Shubham and Hridyesh.

Indore- On Friday, Indore Police arrested 2 ward boys for molesting a COVID-19 patient. The accused have been identified as Shubham and Hridyesh.

"Both the accused tried to molest a COVID-19 patient in the chest ward of the MY Hospital. The incident took place on the intervening night of May 5 and May 6," said Ashutosh Bagri, Superintendent of Police, Indore.

"The girl complained about the incident to her family members but till then both accused had fled the hospital. Sanyogitaganj police station has filed a case and arrested both the accused," Bagri added.

The SP said that the police are now looking into the records of the 2 boys to see if they have any criminal records. The 2 boys were s recruited on a contract basis. 

Many sporadic incidents of violence and manhandling of COVID-19 patients and tussles between healthcare staff and patients have come to light as India is battling the enormous surge in the COVID-19 cases which keeps skyrocketing and spiraling beyond control with every passing day. 

A few days back, a girl from Haryana's Tikri border was allegedly molested at a farmer's protest site. After filing a case for molestation in the police station, the girl was taken to Civil Hospital in Bahadurgarh where she exhibited COVID-19 symptoms. She later succumbed to the deadly infectious disease. 

Similarly, back in September 2020, a woman COVID-19 patient from Pathanamthitta was subjected to sexual assault inside an ambulance while being shifted to a COVID care centre. 

Meanwhile, India on Friday recorded 4.01 lakh fresh cases of COVID-19 taking the active caseload to 37,23,446. In the last 24 hours, 4,187 COVID-induced fatalities were reported, the highest single-day spike recorded in the country so far. The total death toll now stands at over 2.38 lakh.
