Poonch Encounter: 5 Indian Army Soldiers Martyred in Heavy Gunfire by Terrorists

Jammu: On Monday, five soldiers of the Indian army were killed by terrorists in the Poonch district of Jammu. The deceased soldiers also included a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO).

The Indian army had launched a search party after receiving a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in Poonch district's Dera Ki Gali. According to sources, the terrorists had infiltrated from across the Line of Control (LOC). 

The incident took place in the wee hours in a village in Surankote near Dera Ki Gali where the terrorists reportedly showered bullets on the search parties. The five soldiers including the JCO were critically injured during the gunfight.

According to an official statement, the injured soldiers were immediately admitted to the military hospital where they succumbed to their injuries and breathe their last. 

The encounter had continued till late in the evening on Monday.

As per reports, the heavy-armed terrorist group were reported to be present in the Chamrer forest after they infiltrated across the Line of Control.

The defence officials claimed that they have plugged all routes so that it becomes impossible for the terrorist, who had fled to Bhangai village, to escape.

The Indian army has killed 9 terrorists so far since June this year in Jammu on different occassions. Also, three soldiers had died previously while carrying out such operations.
