NEW DELHI: After a high-level meeting with various political leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi might extend lockdown beyond April 14, claim reports.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had indicated that the lockdown can be extended in the state and a decision will be taken after assessing the Covid-19 situation.

In a video statement to a question over if the state government was planning to extend the lockdown in the state, Chouhan said: “The lives of people are more important, a decision will taken after assessment of the situation.”

“We will bear the pain of lockdown and also take care of the economy later but if the people die, then we cannot bring their lives back,” he said.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan also said that looking at the present situation in Bhopal and Indore, “we need to stay more alert and take precautions”.

“And if required it (lockdown) will be extended. Lives of people is of utmost important to me and will decide on it (lockdown) looking after the situation,” he added.

Lockdown period in Mumbai might extend beyond April 14 as number of cases in the city are rising, claim reports.

Mumbai has recorded 736 cases of coronavirus infections. Maharashtra has recorded 1,000-plus coronavirus cases.
