Puja Pandal In Kolkata Displays Gold-Saree Draped Durga Idol Worth Rs 1.5 Lakh

Kolkata: The puja pandal put up by Bandhu Mahal Club in Baguiati in Kolkata has spent a luxurious amount for its Durga idols this year.

One of the Durga idols is clad in a saree which is embroidered with gold weighing about 6 grams. Another idol has about 10 to 11 grams of gold installed in its eyes.

Speaking to a national media portal, the President of the Bandhu Mahal Club said, "The saree has about 6 grams gold and the eyes of the Durga idol have 10-11 grams of gold. It cost ₹1.5 lakhs and a total of ₹10 lakh have been spent in setting up this pandal."

The Bandhu Mahal Club also paid a tribute to Arun Pal by recreating his studio in the pandal. Arun Pal is famous for making idols but had passed away in 2020.

According to the Director of the PR team of the club, Dipanwita Bagchi, the saree will be donated to an underprivileged girl who is set to get married after the puja functions are over.

The West Bengal government had cancelled the annual Durga Puja carnival and other cultural programmes as a measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus. 

This year, the devotees will observe Durga Puja from October 7 to October 15.
