Guwahati: Amid the ongoing pandemic situation, wearing a mask has become the new normal. Now, taking the corona swag to a different level altogether, resident of Pimpi Chinchwad of Pune district has bought himself a mask made of gold worth a whopping Rs 2.89 lakh!

"It's a thin mask with minute holes so that there's no difficulty in breathing. I'm not sure whether this mask will be effective," stated the Pune man. It's uncertain how much this gold mask is effective, but the pictures of Shankar and his gold mask have taken social media by storm. It is to be noted that the total COVID-19 cases in Pimpri Chinchwad rose to 3,284 on July 1, 2020, while the death toll rose to 47.

Meanwhile, India's COVID-19 tally has touched 6,48,315 with the biggest single-day increase of 22,771 cases, the latest data from the Union Health Ministry shows. The country also witnessed 442 deaths during the period, taking the total number of death count to 18,655. The number of recoveries stands at 3,94,227. The recovery rate has improved to 60.80 percent.
