Punjab cop whose hand was chopped off by Nihang Sikhs underwent successful surgery at PGI

NEW DELHI: ASI Harjeet Singh, whose hand was brutally chopped off in an attack by Nihang Sikhs yesterday, was admitted to PGI where he underwent a surgery.

“I am happy to share that a 7 1/2 hour long surgery has been successfully completed in PGI to repair the severed wrist of ASI Harjeet Singh. I thank the entire team of doctors and support staff for their painstaking effort. Wishing ASI Harjeet Singh a speedy recovery,” tweeted Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

11 people which includes a woman have been arrested for attacking the cop, informed DGP Punjab police.

The attack took place at a vegetable market in Patiala.

The group of attackers had crashed through a series of barricade and attacked the police personnel who asked them for curfew passes.

They then fled to Gurdwara Khichri Sahib.

An exchange between the cops and the Nihang Sikhs ensued.

"The police party observed full Maryada while entering the Gurdwara premises. There were also women and children inside, who were unharmed, and have been left secure within the Gurdwara as before," informed Punjab's Special Chief Secretary KBS Sidhu in a tweet.

DGP Punjab Police, Dinkar Gupta tweeted, "11 culprits arrested under UAPA, Explosives Act, Arms Act, NDPS Act for attack on @PunjabPoliceInd personnel in Patiala today. Such acts won’t be tolerated. Anyone attacking the Police will face sure & swift consequences.Will complete probe in 10 days & move for trial on fast track to ensure quick & deterrent action in this case."
