NEW DELHI: Punjab will extend lockdown until 17 May with four hour relaxation every day. The lockdown in India is currently on until May 3.

"I want to reiterate that this disease has spread in the whole world and it is not going to stop right away. Some experts are saying its effect could last till July-August, no one knows because not much is known about this pandemic. I assure you that I will find all ways to give your relief. So we decided that daily from 7AM to 11AM the lockdown will get lifted. You can step out of your homes and can also access shops which are open but confirm to lockdown post 11AM," CM Captain Amarinder Singh said through twitter.

PM Modi had interacted with Chief Ministers of various states to discuss the situation in their state.

Modi had said that COVID-19 patients should not be treated as criminals. This is his fourth such interaction with CMs of various states organised to get an update on the coronavirus situation in the country. Modi asked the CMs to take care of areas where the virus is spreading and help people deal with mental stress in such a situation. Modi also said that in case any state reports more number of coronavirus cases then they will not be held guilty but it is important for states to implement lockdown rules strictly to contain the situation.

As the world struggles to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to the people to shun the habit of spitting in public places. Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said, “Look around, you will see how India has taken up a people-driven battle against COVID-19. India’s fight against COVID-19 is people-driven. Every Indian is a soldier in this fight.”

Speaking in the 64th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said people have been taking lead in various sectors in fight against the deadly virus such as distribution of food to the poor, supply of masks and in following the lockdown measures.
