Rajasthan: Pakistan Links Surface In Kanhaiya Lal's Murder Case

Udaipur: The investigating agency has found Pakistan links during an investigation into the savage Udaipur murder of a tailor named Kanhaiya Lal.

As per media reports, the links of the two self-radicalized murderers with Karachi-based Sunni Islamist organization Dawat-e-Islami, which has links with Barelvi pan-Islamic Tehreek-e-Labbaik extremist organization in Pakistan have come to the fore.

On Tuesday, 38-year-old Riyaz Attari, a resident of Bhilwara, and Ghous Mohammed, 39, a resident of Udaipur, beheaded Kanhaiya Lal with a sharp weapon. He was killed for supporting Nupur Sharma, a former BJP spokesperson who made controversial remarks about Prophet Mohammad.

Reportedly, Riyaz is a welder and he had prepared the weapon used in the murder long before Sharma's controversial remark.

Following the murder, the two accused were apprehended by the Rajasthan Police at Rajsamand, while on their way to shoot another video at the Ajmer Sharif shrine after killing the tailor.

The two Islamists had already shared the video of the murder in their WhatsApp group, which became viral in a matter of minutes after the crime. Notably, in the video, the two highly radicalized Islamists even threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The interrogation of the two accused revealed that the two belonged to the Sufi Barelvi sect of Sunni Islam and had close links with Dawat-e-Islami in Karachi.

As per the reports, it is also being investigated whether they have links with other radical Sunni organizations and the 'Muslim Brotherhood'.

Both of them have been booked under UAPA and the case is now being handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
