Guwahati: A fish weighing around 800 kg was caught in West Bengal's Digha and has become the most sought after delicacy this season!

As per reports, the Chilshankar (stingray) fish, weighing 780kg, was caught in a trawler in Digha and the fishermen are more than delighted about it.

The Chilshankar fish belongs to a rare species and has never been witnessed by the fishermen before; it looks like a flying ship.

It has been reported the huge black fish was caught in a trawler owned by a man from Orissa. Several people and local tourists had gathered to see the huge Chilshankar fish.

Due to its weight, the Chilshankar fish could not be moved and ropes had to be used to move it from one place to another.

Amid the ongoing pandemic, catching the fish in the net is nothing less than a lottery for the fishing team as they have been struggling eke out a living.

Later, the huge fish was tied with ropes at ends and carried to a van by some local fishermen. The fish was transported to the Mohana Fisher's Association

Once the fish was brought to the market, it was auctioned in the wholesale market at Rs 2,100 per kg, and the total price of the fish is now more than Rs 20 lakh.

Ajirul, a local fisherman informed, "This is Chilshankar fish. It weighs 800kgs. The market price of this fish is Rs 2100 per kg. We have never seen such a big and rare fish."

It is to be mentioned the fish scale and oil are used in making medicines and the rest of the body serves as a delicacy during the monsoon season.
