NEW DELHI: While strict measures have been imposed in containment zones where only essential services will be allowed to operate, certain activities will now resume.

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will start collecting toll; healthcare, horticulture, agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries ill begin operations; tea, coffee and rubber plantation will work with 50 % workforce; construction activities will operate, government offices will stay open; workers under MNREGA will work but will have to maintain social distancing and wear masks; e-commerce outlets can deliver non-essential items.

Modi on Sunday appealed to the youth and professionals to adopt a new business model that attaches primacy to care for the poor as well as the planet and emerge as the global nerve centre of complex modern multinational supply chains in the post COVID-19 world.

Sharing thoughts on his LinkedIn profile in the interest of youngsters and professionals, the Prime Minister said the world is in “pursuit of new business models today” and India as a youthful nation known for its innovative zeal can take the lead in providing a new work culture.

“The need of the hour is to think of business models that are easily adaptable,” Modi said. He appealed to all big and small shop owners to invest in digital tools, saying these “keep commerce connected, especially in times of crisis”.

He had urged people to follow lockdown measures until May 3.

“Friends, keeping all the suggestions in mind, it has been decided that the lockdown in India will have to be extended till 3rd May. That means until 3rd May, each and every one of us, will have to remain in the lockdown. During this time, we must continue maintaining discipline in the way we have been doing till now,” he said.

“Therefore, we have to be very vigilant about hot-spots. We will have to keep a close and strict watch on the places which run the risk of becoming hot-spots. The creation of new hot-spots will further challenge our hard work and penance. Hence, let us extend the strictness and austerity in the fight against Corona for the upcoming one week,” he added.

The lockdown was about to end on April 14.
