Rhea Chakraborty's bail rejected, agency says she is a part of "drug syndicate"

Guwahati: Following three days of interrogation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday apprehended Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty in a drug case related to the death of the actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Later in the day, her bail plea was rejected by a magistrate court and she was sent to judicial custody till September 22. Rhea is likely to appeal before the sessions court on Wednesday. Her lawyer Satish Maneshinde informed that they will approach the sessions court for bail.

However, the court rejected Chakraborty's bail application. The NCB told the court that she was an "active member" of a drug syndicate connected with drug supplies said the Narcotics Control Bureau in its court documents.

The actress is the tenth person to be arrested in the case, after her brother Showik Chakraborty, Rajput's former cook Dipesh Sawant and former housekeeper Samuel Miranda, among others.

"Rhea has been arrested and the due process of informing the family has been completed," NCB Deputy Director (Operations) KPS Malthotra said. The NCB said they arrested Rhea based on WhatsApp chats and the statements of the other accused.

In her TV interviews, she claimed that she had never taken drugs.

Her lawyer Satish Maneshinde termed the actress's arrest as a "complete travesty of justice."

In a statement, he said that "three central agencies hounding a single woman, just because she was in love with a drug addict and a person suffering from mental health issues."

Reacting to the arrest of actor Rhea Chakraborty in a drug case related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput Tuesday, Manshinde claimed that Sushant Singh Rajput had been treated by five leading psychiatrists in the city.

Recently, Rhea was interrogated by a CBI probe team as she is called to be the 'main accused' in the abetment of a suicide case filed by Rajput's father, and was also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case.
