Rs. 10,000 festive-advance for Central Govt. employees

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam announced that a sum of Rs. 10, 000 would be given in advance to all the employees of the Central government.

The money will be given to the employees in a prepaid Rupay Card, which can be spent by March 31, 2021. However, the employees can only spend it using digital means. They cannot withdraw it as cash. This interest-free one-time advance is available to all, including both gazetted and non-gazetted employees of the central government.

The festive-advance needs to be paid back in 10-installments. There is also the option for the state governments to offer a festive advance on the lines of the central government. The festive advance for the central government employees was discontinued from the 6th Pay Commission, said the finance minister. This is a part of the plan of the government to raise consumer spending to incite demand in the economy.
