Rahul while answering questions posed by lawyers of accused Indrani Mukerjea said, "I reiterate my stand that my father is innocent." He further added that his father Peter Mukerjea was not even aware of the plot to kill Sheena.
Rahul who was the fiancée of late Sheena Bora said, "I have written to the President and the Prime Minister stating that my father is innocent and no charges can be made on him."
It may be recalled here that Sheena who was 24 years old was allegedly kidnapped and killed on April 24, 2012 by her mother Indrani Mukerjea with the help of co-accused Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai. The matter came to light only in 2015 when the driver Shyamvar Rai confessed of the crime during his interrogation by the police in another case.
Thereafter, Indrani's Peter Mukerjea was also arrested in the case. Currently, all the accused are on bail.
In spite of the investigations, Sheena's mother Indrani Mukerjea has been maintaining that her daughter is alive. During December last year, Indrani claimed that Sheena was living in Kashmir.
According to the CBI who took over the case from the Mumbai Police, Indrani Mukerjea murdered her daughter Sheena as she disapproved her relationship with Rahul, the son of Peter Mukerjea and Indrani's third husband.
