Six IAF Officers Booked for Murder over Cadet Death in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Six Indian Air Force officials have been booked for murder following the suspicious death of a trainee cadet at the Air Force Technical College (AFTC) in Bengaluru, the police said in a statement. 

The deceased officer is being identified as 27-year-old Ankit Kumar Jha, who was training at the AFTC in Jalahalli campus for over a year, according to police.

He had allegedly committed suicide by hanging after being discharged from service following a court of inquiry.

However, the deceased's family suspects that their son has been killed. 

The deceased has left a suicide note where he mentions the names of six Indian air force In his suicide note,  including an Air Commodore, a Group Captain, and two Wing Commanders - among others, police sources said.

The brother of the deceased Aman accused the training officer of killing his brother and made it look like a suicide. 

Aman said, "While talking to me over the phone, he said he was being forced to sign certain documents and that he was under severe mental trauma as disciplinary action was taken against him. He was earlier terminated in July."

According to Jha's family, Jha was often subjected to abuse on the college campus which he used to tell his family over the phone. 

However, the investigating officers of the case found that disciplinary action was taken against Jha following which he was released from his service. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North Bengaluru division Vinayak Patil said in a statement," All six people named in the alleged suicide note have been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after a case was registered at the Gangammanagudi Police Station."

However, no arrests have been made so far, he added.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and other post-death formalities. Police are waiting for the post-mortem reports to investigate deeper into the case.
