New Delhi: The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) has said Sputnik light COVID vaccine will be launched in India by December this year.

According to a news agency report, RDIF, CEO, Kirill Dmitriev during a press conference, asserted that they are hopeful of launching the vaccine in India by December this year and in this regard, they are working well with Indian institutes.

"We have Serum institute as our production partner in India, and we believe that Sputnik Light will play a big role in the Indian vaccination campaign," the news agency quoted Dmitriev as saying.

Notably, taking to the micro-blogging site twitter, Sputnik V said that Russian's Health Ministry will register the said vaccine for children aged 12-17 and the shots are expected to be available at the end of December.

The country has witnessed surge in COVID cases in the recent weeks. So far, it has registered 33,558 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours which is the lowest number since October 16.

According to anti-coronavirus crisis centre report, the total number of infections has reached 9,434,393.
