TCS, Infosys, HCL hiring for 1 lakh IT jobs amid booming outsourcing demand

Guwahati: Large IT companies in India are looking to hire over 100,000 people locally in order to provide the teams with manpower to finish client projects who have now come to rely heavily on outsourcing to cut costs.

According to an ET report, after a disappointing June quarter, where a hiring freeze didn't offer good opportunities to freshers, IT companies have now restarted employing and fulfilling all campus offers made to college graduates.

Industry experts are of the opinion that while COVID-19 pandemic may have halted IT hiring in general, it could push the companies to adopt contract recruitment that will get them the required manpower without any getting into any long-term commitments for the employee such as medical or other office expenses.

The report says that India's largest software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services, is gearing up to employ around 40,000 new recruits, similar to last year, despite the drastic fall in revenue in the June quarter due to COVID-19. They have also resumed hiring freshers and resumed lateral hiring. TCS reported a total workforce of 4,48,464, as of March this year.

Bengaluru based Infosys is looking to hire more than 20,000 new people, while HCL is going to hire 15,000 freshers this year.
