
Sitapur: The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday arrested Mahant Bajrang Muni, a religious leader, who had allegedly threatened to kidnap and rape women of a particular community.
According to reports, Muni was nabbed from UP's Sitapur 11 days after he addressed a religious procession and made threats.
After the video of threats went viral, the National Commission of Women (NCW) had issued a strong statement and demanded his arrest, following which police registered an FIR against Muni.
The religious leader has been slapped with relevant charges for his hate speeches under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The video which went viral was of 2nd April, which showed Muni addressing a gathering from inside a vehicle.
''If a man from your community harasses any girl in the are, I will pick up your daughters from your homes and rape them, '' he was heard saying and crowd cheered him on.
Ever since the video surfaced online, women from the Muslim community have been protesting in the state, demanding his immediate arrest.
