UP: Pregnant teen brutally killed for ''bringing shame'' on the family, father & brother under arrest

Bareilly: In yet another shocking incident reported from Uttar Pradesh, a 16-year-old pregnant Dalit girl who was allegedly raped by an acquaintance was killed by her father and elder brother for ''bringing shame'' on the family. The incident happened in UP's Shahjahanpur district.

According to police reports, the news of the unmarried girl's pregnancy spread in the village and the family felt 'ashamed'. The girl was brutally thrashed, her body was decapitated and buried in a riverbed.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Shahjahanpur S Anand said that the father has confessed to having killed his daughter as she was pregnant and villagers started insulting him publicly. The girl's father and brother have been booked under IPC section 302 (murder) and (causing disappearance of evidence). The police also questioned the mother and other relatives but they did not find any involvement in the murder.

The girl was never sent to school. The family taught her the virtues of silence. She stayed quiet after her alleged rape until her baby bump started showing. According to the police, she never revealed the name of the rapist to the family and also remained quiet until her last breath.

The police recovered the girl's mutilated body on Tuesday and cracked the case within hours. The girl was missing since September 23 but no complaint was lodged by the family. During the initial interrogation, the family told police that the girl was living with a relative.

The police are trying to find the rapist.
