UP's Jhansi Railway Station Gets A New Name, Will Be Called Veerangana Laxmibai Station

Jhansi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has a reputation as far as renaming places is concerned. He has renamed some places so far under his rule but he is not done yet.

The Yogi-led UP Government has decided to rename the Jhansi Railway Station and it will be called as Veerangana Laxmibai railway station from now onwards.

It has been renamed after Rani Laxmibai, the valorous queen of Jhansi, who fought valiantly against the British forces during India's freedom struggle.

The UP CM himself made the announcement of renaming the station via a tweet in Hindi, which translated in English reads as, "The Jhansi Railway station will now be known as 'Veerangana Laxmibai Railway Station'," Yogi Adityanath wrote.

A notice has been released by the UP Government and the Chief PRO of North Central Railway, Prayagraj, Shivam, while addressing the media said that preparations are already underway to implement the change.

The notification stated that the renaming was done after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a "no-objection" via a letter dated 24 November, 2021.

Earlier, the Mughalsarai Railway station was renamed as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Railway Station. Ghazipur and Bastipur station seems to be the next target and the government is mulling plans to rename it.

However, the renaming activity is not only confined to Railway Stations. Names of cities and towns have also not been spared.

Allahabad was renamed as Prayagraj while Faizabad was renamed as Ayodhya. Sultanpur, Mirazapur, Aligarh, Firozabad and Mainpuri are also on the list for a name change.

Also, this renaming activity has spilled over to other states as well. The Habibganj Railway station in Bhopal was renamed as Rani Kamlapati Railway Station last month.
