Uttar Pradesh Election 2022: Saffron Party Loses Key Ministers Ahead of Polls

Delhi: Swami Prasad Maurya, a prominent minister in Yogi Adityanath's administration, announced his resignation via Twitter. BJP minister and four MLAs join Akhilesh Yadav, the party's primary rival, Adityanath just days before the Uttar Pradesh election.

Four other MLAs close to him, Roshan Lal Verma, Brijesh Prajapati, Bhagwati Sagar, and Vinay Shakya, announced their resignations in the hours that followed.

After leaving Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party, Swami Prasad Maurya, a powerful OBC leader, and five-time MLA, joined the BJP in 2016. (BSP). He was an important part of the BJP's strategy for attracting OBC voters to fight Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party.

Despite our ideological differences, I worked hard in Yogi Adityanath's administration. "However, I am resigning because of the severe oppression of Dalits, OBCs, farmers, the unemployed, and small businessmen," Mr. Maurya stated in his caustic resignation letter.

"What influence my exit will have on the BJP will be clear after the 2022 assembly election," he added.

Akhilesh Yadav tweeted a selfie with Maurya as his letter went viral on Twitter; welcome him and his supporters to the Samajwadi Party.

The exit polls confirmed that resentment in the ranks against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is a problem that the BJP has ignored.

Maurya would be accompanied by more than a dozen leaders, according to the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), who announced a joint campaign with Akhilesh Yadav in Uttar Pradesh. "UP is about to undergo a transformation. Today, Maurya resigned, along with 13 other MLAs. You will notice that more people are quitting in the coming days " in Mumbai, he stated.

Maurya is a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly representing Padrauna in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Sanghamitra, his daughter, is a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh will vote in seven rounds beginning February 10.
