Haridwar: A six-year-old and her mother were allegedly gang-raped by some unidentified persons in moving into Uttrakhand's Haridwar district recently.

According to reports, the incident took place on Friday night when the girl and her mother heading towards Roorkee from Kaliyar. The woman along with her daughter took a lift in a car on the Kaliyar-Roorkee Road.

After this, three to four men gang-raped them inside the car before dumping them near the Ganga Canal stretch and fled in the car.

Upon receiving the information of the same, the police rushed to the spot and took them to a hospital, where after medical examination the rape was confirmed.

Reportedly, the mother earns through begging and lives in a shelter home.

An FIR under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered at the Civil Lines police station in Roorkee against unknown persons on basis of the woman's complaint.

The police have also released a photo of a suspect.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo moto cognizance of the same and constituted a three-member fact-finding team to look into the matter.
