Victim Of Air India Urinating Incident Receives Rs 15,000 As Compensation, Says Lawyer

NEW DELHI: According to reports, the man who allegedly peed on a female co-passenger on an Air India trip from New York to New Delhi paid the victim Rs 15,000 in restitution. The defendant's attorney, Shankar Mishra, asserted that the man had even had the victim's possessions cleaned. Even on WhatsApp, the accused and victim had exchanged messages.

The family had refunded the money, according to WhatsApp messages between the woman's daughter and Mishra that were made public on Friday, according to sources. On November 26 of last year, during a horrific occurrence, Mishra, who was intoxicated, peed on his female co-passenger, a senior person in her seventies, in the business class of an Air India aircraft between New York and Delhi.

Mishra claimed in a statement released through his attorneys Ishanee Sharma and Akshat Bajpai that he had the woman's clothing and bags cleaned on November 28 and given to her on November 30.

"The Whatsapp exchanges between the accused and the lady plainly reveal that the accused had the clothes and luggage cleaned on November 28 and that they were delivered on November 30.

"The lady in her message has obviously supported the alleged crime and has shown no indication that she intends to file a complaint. The woman's ongoing protest, which she raised again on December 20, 2022, was limited to the airline's payment of adequate compensation.

The woman gave Mishra her number in one of the Whatsapp conversations that they allegedly exchanged on November 27 and admitted receiving Rs 5,000. She did, however, add that the incident had left her daughter and son-in-law quite distraught. She informed Mishra that she talked them out of filing a report because he was so contrite and unaware of what had happened.

In the string of Whatsapp chats, the woman expressed her hope that Mishra will change his ways and honour his word. Mishra thanked her and vowed never to repeat the incident in return. The woman expressed her displeasure with the Air India employees while appearing to forgive Mishra.

He notified her of her clothing and shoes being sent for cleaning and "refurbished" in a day or two in another message he sent her the following day. He mentioned sending her an additional 10,000 rupees in his letter.

A screenshot of the transactions for Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 and a statement that the payments were made in accordance with the woman's requests are both included in a message sent to "Air Hostess Madam."
