Video of rats running around ICU goes viral, raises question regarding hygiene and treatment

Chennai: A shocking video from Salem government super specialty hospital where several rats can be seen running around the ICU, jumping on equipment and in close proximity of patients, has gone viral raising questions about hygiene in a hospital amid COVID.

The video was captured by a patient at the Salem government super specialty hospital, it can be seen how patients and their caretakers are sleeping cramped inside the ICU -- more than one person on a bed and several others forced to lie on the floor.

The viral video has raised several questions regarding the kind of treatment given to patients in the government hospital, the hygiene maintained in the premises and the health risk that these patients are being put under.

Many even questioned what would the hospital do if any of these rats bit the oxygen supply in the ICU or any of the patients.

After the video went viral, hospital officials assured that necessary action will be taken.
