Wearing of masks mandatory in Maharashtra for next six months: Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray said that he is not in favour of night curfew or another lockdown in the state as the novel coronavirus is under control, however, not completely. He addressed the state through video conferencing on Sunday. He has further urged the people to follow the guidelines of COVID-19 and also, making masks mandatory for the next six months. It will help in curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Quoting the famous phrase, "Prevention is better than cure," Thackeray said that wearing masks in the public places should be made mandatory for another six months at least.

Along with the Coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, CM Thackeray also addressed various other issues such as the metro car shed project.

Taling about the night curfew or lockdown in the state, Thackeray said that the experts are in favour of that, however, he was not in favour of these measures as the COVID-19 situation in the state is under control, though not completely.

Prior to Sunday, Thackeray addressed the state on November 22. He then warned the residents of the state about the third Coronavirus wave in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra is the most worst affected state of COVID-19 in India. The state recorded 3,940 cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. The total number of cases in Maharashtra is 18,92,707. The state also reported 74 deaths due to COVID-19 on Saturday. The total number of death due to the virus is 48,648.

Mumbai alone reported 632 new cases, which pushed its case count to 2,86,264, while its death toll rose to 10,980 with nine new fatalities. Maharashtra has so far conducted 1,20,59,235 tests.

The upodated COVID-19 figures of the state are: Positive cases: 18,92,707, new cases: 3,940, death toll: 48,648, discharged: 17,81,841, active cases: 61,095, people tested so far: 1,20,59,235.
