MUMBAI: In an unfortunate incident, a woman with her earphones plugged in died after being hit by a speeding local train.

According to reports, the incident took place in Hoshangabad, in Maharashtra when a woman died while crossing the track at a railway crossing.

The viral video which has surfaced witnessed the woman crossing the railway gate despite being closed for traffic and a sign that a train is going to pass by any time.

The deceased woman was carrying a bag with her earphones on, positively walked towards her destination without looking left or right. Hence she could not hear the sound from outside.

Meanwhile, according to bystanders, the train which was moving in full speed, blew its horn several times. But she could not hear anything because of her earphones.

In fact, she saw the train coming in the nick of time and tried to cross the track quickly. But she misjudged the timing and died on the spot.

Earlier a similar incident took place when a resident of Lok Udyan complex in Kalyan was heading out to her college died after being hit by a speeding train because she was wearing a headphone.

The deceased has been identified as Antudevi Dubey.

Railway officials recovered a pair of earphones from the tracks, making them suspect that she had it plugged in at the time.

Antudevi Dubey, a student of a Kalyan college who was scheduled to appear for an examination at Ulhasnagar, entered the railway premises from a housing colony-Ashok Building Lok Udyan-adjacent to the tracks around 9.30 am.

Sources said the authorised entry gate gives occupants of the housing colony exclusive access to the station. Commuters who use the gate, however, are expected to use a foot overbridge (FOB) nearby.

Shivaji Sutat, chief public relations officer of Central Railway (CR), appealed to commuters to use FOBs, lifts and escalators. "The CR has taken measures like construction of boundary walls, FOBs and fences between tracks to prevent trespassing. We are also conducting awareness campaigns to warn people about the dangers of trespassing," he said.
