'You Want To Ban Industries in Pakistan': CJI After UP Govt Blames Pakistan for Air Pollution

NEW DELHI: In a reply to the Uttar Pradesh governmnet on air pollution, the Supreme Court's Chief Justice NV Ramana said, 'So you want to ban industries in Pakistan?'

This come after the UP govermnet alleged that UP industries have no role in the rising pollution in the NCR and polluted air from Pakistan deteriorates the air quality of the Capital.

According to reports, senior advocate Ranjit Kumar appearing for the UP government told the Top Court that Delhi air quality is affected by the polluting air coming from Pakistan.

Further he stated that the eight-hour operation window is affecting the sugarcane and milk industries in Uttar Pradesh.

The CJI-led bench asked the UP counsel to go to the Commission with the grievance and let them decide on the issue.

The Supreme Court was hearing a plea filed by environmental activist Aditya Dubey and law student Aman Banka, who sought directions to provide stubble-removing machines to small and marginal farmers for free.

The Commission for Air Quality Management has constituted an enforcement task force to look into the pollution situation in the NCR, a day after the Supreme Court bench gave a 24-hour deadline for some concrete actions to combat the rising levels of pollution.

The Apex Court on Thursday, 2 December, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Delhi Government as well as the Central Government to take appropriate action and curb the menace of toxic air pollution. It has also asked both the Governments to come up with serious plans within 24 hours and try to bring about a solution to tackle this problem.

The failure to do so within the stipulated time given would result in the court passing an order, the court warned. The top court further added that they were serious about industrial and vehicular pollution in the city and also questioned the Delhi government's decision to not shut down schools.
