1 killed, 2 injured as under-construction bridge collapses

ITAGAR, April 20: The under construction RCC bridge over Sibut river near Bodak camp on Pasighat-Mariyang road (TAH) collapsed on Tuesday morning killing one labourer on the spot and leaving two other severely injured. The dead has been identified as Mantu Payeng (35) of Bogidi, Lakhimpur district while the injured persons were Mafij Ali and Dhaniram Mili, who have been admitted to Pasighat General Hospital. Another labourer, Ranjit Hazong escaped the incident unhurt. According to witnesses, the bridge collapsed at around 10.30 AM when four labourers were fitting shutter under the RCC structure. As many as 20 labourers were engaged in the bridge construction, but most of them were not at the site during the time of incident. The bridge construction work is being executed by JKM Infra Projects Limited. The administration has engaged men and machinery to recover the body of the dead while Mebo Police have reached the spot.
