TANGLA: Acting on a tip-off, forest officials under Dhansiri Forest Division in Udalguri district, in a joint operation with Tangla Police, seized 10 trucks illegally carrying mined stone and sand from the rivers of Indo-Bhutan border areas of Udalguri.

There have been allegations since long of a section of unscrupulous contractors and businessmen of Guwahati, Mangaldai and Tangla carrying out illegal trade of stone and sand in unholy nexus with forest officials. The Tangla Forest Beat Office and Paneri Forest Beat Office officials, along with team of Tangla Police, seized four dumpers, three 407 mini trucks and three trucks and have kept six of them at Tangla Forest Beat office and four at Paneri Forest Beat Office. The trucks either did not have challan or were carrying purportedly fake challan.

A forest official said, “Contractors and businessmen take multiple trips with a single challan and carry excess load then permitted, thereby causing huge revenue loss to the government.”
