10 years of RTI movement observed

SHILLONG, Oct 13: The Meghalaya Rights to Information Movement and the Campaign for an Independent Lokayukta today celebrated the 10 year anniversary of RTI movement in the state near the additiol secretariat building entitled ’10 years of Transparency - Time now for Accountability’. Several people and various NGOs including TUR, CSWO, KSU, FKJGP, GSU, and AJYWO besides others participated in the celebrations. Pamphlets carrying information about how to obtain information under the RTI were also seen being distributed. “We celebrate the existence of RTI for the past 10 years in the state and we feel that the RTI is one of the ways and means in which even the poor and under privilege families has been able to use and in turn they have benefited,” Khasi Students Union (KSU) central body president Daniel Khryiem said while addressing the 10 year anniversary celebration of RTI in the state near the additiol secretariat building in the city on Tuesday. According to the KSU leader, corruption is growing in countless government departments including Ministers, Officers, bureaucrats etc and this has affected the development of the state.
