100 flags hoisted in Sivasagar to mark AXX centery celebration

SIVASAGAR, Dec 27: To mark the completion of 100 years of Axam Xahitya Xabha, the ONGC Colony branch of Sivasagar of Axam Xahitya Xabha began its inugural ceremony by hoisting 100 flags at ONGC open pandal premises on Tuesday. The Xabha was founded in December 1917, to promote Assamese language and literature and the first conference was presided over by Padmath Gohain Baruah in Sivasagar.

The flags were hoisted by 100 distinguished guests from various walks of the society, including litterateurs, academicians, social workers and cultural activists. Rich tributes were paid to those who had unmatched contribution towards the Assamese language, literature, culture and heritage. The chief guest on the occasion was Hemant Kumar Shethi, GM (civil), ONGC, Assam Asset who offered the smriti tarpan.

As per scheduled programme, a dance was performed by Ruchika Borthakur, a Class VII student of zira Gurukul.

The day’s highlight was presentation of Chiro chenehi mur bhakha jani at the beginning by a group of women, while the function ended with presentation of  O..mur Apur desh by the assembled gathering.

To commemorate the occasion, a souvenir Shipa was released by Dr Saumarjyoti Mahanta, Principal of Sibsagar Commerce College, in presence of Dr Anil Saikia, president of Sivasagar district Xahitya Xabha, Tulika Chetia Yein, president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, ONGC Colony branch, Ritul Gogoi, Deba Hazarika and other dignitaries.

The event was anchored by Dembiram Panging, secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha, ONGC Colony branch.
