10,000 saplings to be planted in Goalpara

Goalpara, May 20: The Goalpara district administration, in cooperation with the municipal office, has geared up to make the town green. On World Environment Day on June 5, 10,000 saplings will be planted in and around the municipal area by the administration in cooperation with the general public as well as the businessmen.

On Wednesday, a meeting was held at Gandhi Bhavan in this  regard where prominent  businessmen, newly elected ward commissioners, senior citizens, representatives of political parties attended and supported the cause.

“We will take this opportunity to make district green and celebrate World Environment Day,” said JVN Subramanyam, Goalpara Deputy Commisioner while presiding over the meeting. “The plantation will give a new and beautiful look to the town,” he added.

Earlier, explaining the purpose of the meeting, Dhiman Choudhury, executive officer, Goalpara municipality, sought cooperation from the public. Among the others, social workers, ni Das, Soilen Das,  Harmuj Ali and businessmen like Bimal Sura, Ajmal Hoque also attended the meeting.
