11-party form an alliance to take on BJP led Government in Manipur

Imphal: Eleven political parties formed a core committee here on Thursday in order to tackle the BJP-led governments in Manipur and the Centre.

The parties that formed the core committee included Congress, CPM, CPI, North East India Development Party (NEIDP), Janata Dal Secular, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), All India Trinamool Congress, All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

As stated by Manipur CPI president L. Sotinkumar former Congress MLA R.K. Anand will be the convener of the 22-member committee whereas CPI assistant secretary Kh. Surchand and NEIDP vice-president O. Malesh will become co-conveners.

Congress MLA R.K. Anand said the committee has been formed with an aim to address political and social problems created by the BJP-led governments of the state and the Centre and without any political gains. He said, "The NDA government at the Centre does not have good relations with any of the north-eastern states and hence the core committee has been formed to fight it and its policies," He further said, "The BJP government put Manipur on fire by inserting the phrase "without territorial limits" in the ceasefire agreement signed between the Centre and the NSCN (Isak-Muivah). People rose against the extension of the ceasefire in Manipur which led to the loss of 18 precious lives,". Anand again added, "The framework agreement was signed with the NSCN (I-M) on August 3, 2015, but its contents are still concealed. Manipur's merger into the Indian Union did not mean that it should lead to disintegration of the ancient nation,"

According to Former CPI MLA M. Nara this core committee is a platform of like-minded parties formed to fight the anti-people and communal stand of the BJP government. He moreover said that the committee was formed with the permission of the central leaders of the constituent parties.
