11 shops gutted in fire

IMPHAL, Aug 29: Hotels, eateries, groceries were among the eleven shops which had been burned to cinders during a devastating fire at around 4 am on Saturday at Irilbung Keithel in Imphal East district.

Fire tenders were rushed from Imphal West district.

Four fire tenders fought the raging fire for several hours to douse the flames. All items inside the shops had been burned to ashes and precious nothing could be salvaged. Since the market complex is located near the Iril river there was not much of problem for water.

But fanned by the wind from the nearby mountain the raging flames engulfed the shops within minutes.

Fire fighters say short circuit may be a reason behind the massive fire.
