12-hour Assam bandh paralyzes Kalaigaon

KALAIGAON, December 16: The 12-hour Assam and Tripura bandh on Wednesday paralyzed normal life in Kalaigaon.

The tiol Federation for New State (NFNS) had called this bandh and it was supported by the State demand groups like ABSU,JACAS, NDFB (P), ADSU along with People’s Joint Action Committee of Bodoland Movement. During the bandh, bushes and other vehicles did not ply and streets wore a deserted look. Government offices, banks, schools, colleges along with other institutions remained closed too. Assam Police and paramilitary forces had been deployed throughout  Bhergaon subdivision in six police station areas like Kalaigaon, Khairabari, Harishinga, Paneri, Dimakuchi and Tangla to maintain law and order during the bandh. The security forces were led by Nirupam Hazarika, Subdivisiol Police Officer (SDPO) of Bhergaon subdivision.

No untoward incident was reported during the bandh. The bandh also passed off peacefully in neighbouring towns like Tangla,Bhergaon and Khairabari.
