12-hour Assam bandh peaceful in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, December 16: The 12-hour Assam and Tripura bandh caledl by the tiol Federation for New States (NFNS) from 5 am to 5 pm on Wednesday demanding the creation of more new States in India, passed off peacefully in Kokrajhar district. The bandh was total and peaceful barring some small incidents like burning of tyres on the road in certain places in the district.

All government offices, markets, business establishments remained closed. Streets wore a deserted look. The bandh was supported by the State demand groups ABSU, JACAS, ADSU, NDFB (P) and People’s  Joint Action Committee of Bodoland Movement (PJACBM).

The bandh was called to press for their demand for Bodoland state, Karbi state, Dimaraji and Tipraland in India. ABSU general secretary Lawrence Islary said that essential and emergency services, people going for special occasions such as marriage, religious festivals and pilgrimage were exempted from the bandh.
